Enjoying a chilled out day.
I am bushed after working the last 3 days and then not sleeping very well last night.
I think I was awake every other hour. And then, because i have been up early the past three mornings, I was awake at 4:30 this morning.
I caught up on laundry. I had a phone interview for a great summer job in Alaska.
Had the princess after preschool. And I stopped at Target to get her a new booster seat because I was tired of cramming her in the one we had. She was happy.
AndCurtis got home from his over night in Missoula.

This was the sunrise as we left Sedona on Saturday morning,
Two days of driving and we are back home again.
My phone rang a little after 5am this morning and they needed me to come into work. It as been 5-6 weeks since I have actually worked a shift. It worked out so I did about 7 hours and then i could come home.
On call again in the morning and in the meantime trying to do some catching up.

The Beauty of Sedona, AZ

This morning Curtis and I left the beauty of sunny Sedona. The desert has it's own beauty-the red rock, the landscape, the vegetation.
Thanks to Robin and Walter for their hospitality.
We had a good drive- past Paige, AZ- along the curvy mountainous roads near the northern edge of the Grand Canyon- skirting Bryce Canyon and heading north into SLC, where we are spending the night.

A Visit to Jerome

Yesterday we headed to Jerome, an old mining town.
Today it is filled with yummy restaurants and cute shops.
On the way over we stopped at a second hand store and Curtis found some Argus camera equipment for a good price,
Jerome is built on a hill so lots of climbing. The streets are very narrow.
They believe a lot of the old buildings are haunted and we ate at the haunted hamburger for lunch.
Later, we headed over the mountain to Prescott for some shopping-more on that later.

We actually got to travel legally at 80mph, legally,for part of our drive through southern Utah. But there were still drivers going faster than that and passing us by.

Leaving Provo, UT

I love the landscape of the southwest. There are mountains practically the whole drive down from SLC to Vegas. I love the red rock. Had beautiful blue skies as you can see. And the temps were in the 60's when we arrived here.

Of coarse, Curtis had to take a trip down the the strip in Las Vegas and this is what we saw-----

Heading South

For the next 10 days , just like the birds. Had some pretty dense fog first thing this morning. But it left when we drove into the canyon and we have had bare roads and great weather for our drive down. Spending the night in Provo, Utah, on to Vegas for tomorrow night.

Middle of the Week

Start of a New Month--February!!! Where the heck did January go????
You get a couple of wintery photos, since we may be getting a little snow tonight.
Ran errands today. Got my jetted tub finally fixed and now to get the tile back up.
Went up to work to check on a couple of things.
Seems my manager managed to not get my change of work status in from a regular part-time position to a registry position. Good thing I keep an eye on my pay stubs.
They have been taking out for dental insurance that I no longer qualify for. So, in the long end I should be getting some $$$ back--will come in handy since I haven't been working any shifts.
Picked up the princess after preschool.
Trying to get organized to head south to AZ for a few days on Friday to visit some good friends who have been snow birding there.

Today it was daughter #1's birthday. She is a quarter of a century, making me feel very old. We celebrated her birthday, with Harlee's yesterday.
Thinking back 25 years ago, it was a long day of back labor with her after going 2-1/2 weeks overdue. She is still very stubborn today.
She is trying very hard to be a good mum and has her hands full with Nic. I thought Kirsten was hard to deal with, but I believe she butts heads with her son.

Went up to preschool with Kirsten and Nic. Kirsten baked cake pops for Harlee'e preschool class. She can always use and extra pair of hands with Nic around. The cake pops looked very cute and Harlee had helped her mum decorate them.

Birthday Celebrations

Today we had birthday celebrations for our family.
We celebrated Harlee turning 5 and tomorrow is her mama's big day.
We have so enjoyed those 5 years with our little princess mermaid.
She is such a pleasure and her nana loves her to bits.

We had the kids for a bit this morning and then we took Kirsten and the critters out for lunch at one of Kirsten's favourite places, Chili's.
Later this afternoon, we headed to Kirsten's for presents and birthday cake.
She picked out a purple Dora cake. Who would have guessed with purple being her favourite colour.

Tomorrow the princess turns 5, and her mama celebrates the next day.

It's been a countdown all week for Harlee.

I was on call for work, but didn't have to go in.

Woke up with a killer back this morning. Have drugs on board and rubbed with Deep Heat and soaked in the tub. Hopefully it will be feeling better in the near future.

Kirsten's power was out, the lights on 10th were out.
And there was a major dust storm out at Ulm.
Yet, Kirsten and I braved it all to take the kiddos ot the dentist in Helena.
Thank goodness the roads were good.

No, its para- skiers.
When we were coming back from our drive on Sunday these kites appeared over the hill and disappeared again.
I happened to turn to the side and saw a couple of these guys para-skiing up and down the hill.
Kind of intriguing. But I have no interest in trying these out.

My day was pretty chilled back and relaxing. Have got to create most of the day.

Yesterday Curtis and I took a drive--after having a little cabin fever. Not much snow lying around until we got closer to the mountains.

There will be a lot of birthdays to celebrate this next week, starting with my friend, Robyn's, which is today. She and her husband are playing down south in Arizona for Jan. and Feb. Lucky them. Will be off to join them in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to that.

Got canceled from work today and not even on call for them. So, my day is free.

Looks like a nice sunny day outside. Not as warm as yesterday, but not has chilling as earlier in the week. All is good.

Making Stickers

Yesterday, Kirsten and I took Harlee to get Valentines for her classmates.
She, of coarse, picked princess ones with a sucker included.
Then she thought she needed Valentine stickers and her mother didn't want to spend the money on them.
I told her we could make some at home and that seemed to satisfy her.
We came back to my house and she could hardly wait to get in my craft room. It didn't help papa was on the phone in that room.
So, she picked out some striped paper, i got the Cricut all set and away we went cutting out hearts. Then, we ran them through the Xyron and voila, stickers. And one very happy camper.
Harlee and Nic spent the evening at our house, so there mum and dad could go to a roller derby party. Bath time in Nana's big tub and a little Wii and off to bed.

The weather has been just weird and wacky this week. After not getting hardly above freezing all week, this morning I get up and the temperature is 40F. The Chinook winds are blowing and that is what makes the difference and everything is melting now. And a grand high of 47F today.

Onto my day, I have Hibernated. It is freezing cold and snowy and I didn't need to be out there.
It started out at 18below this morning and my weather bug says minus 15F at 4pm.
I just went out to feed the birds and take the garbage can to the street.
Oh, yeah, I had a hawk in the back yard, right off the deck watching all my little bird friends--not sure I like that too much!
Kirsten and Nic came over to visit.
And otherwise I have been scrapping and puttering.

Monday Freeze up!

BBBbbrrrrrrrr....... it has become a deep freeze out there.
Today it was 4F when we were out running around and just on Sat. it was 54. That is a 50 degree change in temps. Only in Montana. And snow predicted for the next few days.

On to my day. Doing some catch up around the house. Got it all vacuumed and also the floors all washed. Clean house.
The plumber called with the cost for a new pump for the jetted tub. Yeah!!!!

We have been enjoying a warm, very windy and snowless winter, thus far.
But this is the forecast for Great Falls for the next week.
Better run to the grocery store today for a few staples.
I just want to hunker down and stay at home.
Pretty much possible since I have no work shifts scheduled.

Happy to report Caitlin made it safely back to Tacoma, despite the winter weather going over Snoqualmie Pass. And the idiot Washington drivers that don't know what to do in snow.

Spending a quiet day at home, scrapbooking.

My Heart is Heavy

as I had to say good bye to Caitlin this morning. She is on her way driving back to the coast. Just talked with her, as she was on the far side of Spokane. More than half way there. She had stopped for gas and some lunch.
We had such a great time with her at home. She spent lots of time with her niece and nephew.
We had lots of laughs playing Mario on the Wii.
She cooked a couple of yummy meals.
She caught up on some much needed rest and just relaxed after an exhausting last semester.
But school is behind her now and hopefully she can find a job that will make her happy.
Sometimes Seattle seems so far away.
But in just a few weeks, Curtis and I will be there and seeing her again.
Makes it OK to let her go.

Been trying to keep myself busy, so I don't think about her driving alone too much.
Pulled sheets off her bed, washed those sheets and her towels.
Remade the bed.
Cleaned the bathrooms.
Sent photos to be printed and picked them up.
Another unusually warm day--our car thermometer read 54F. Very windy again.
Enjoy, as it is to plunge into the deep freeze.

Trying to prepare myself for Cait heading back to the coast on Saturday. It has been a wonderful month with her around. She would have left tomorrow, except she didn't want to chance traveling on Friday the 13th.

MY DIY Project

OK, so now that Cait is done school, she will be cooking on her own with a friend.
I had these big bag of spices I bought when I was in Canada, that were a good deal and I wanted to send some back with her.
We bought these little jars at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
I got out my Revolution, some letter dies and some vinyl.
And I labeled the little jars with the above.
I think they turned out real cute!

Winter temps have returned to our neck of the woods. Had a little snow--enough to make the roads slippery this morning.
Visited the dentist today for a cleaning and all is OK until the summer now.

Thanks to Kirsten and the kids coming over, I have a photo to post for the first week of the New Year. It was Saturday bath time at Nana's. So, a brief break from layouts, although I did finish another one today.
Kirsten and Tim spent some time in the ER last evening. Kirsten had terrible pain around her Left ribs and I guess has inflammation of the cartlidge around her ribs. I invited her over for dinner so she wouldn't have to cook. The don't know if it is from derby, fighting with Nic, stress or a combination of them all. She needs to rest and has some pain meds for it.
I was on call for work today, and didn't get called in. Did some laundry adn some scrap booking.

I didn't create a whole lot of layouts in 2011. But I am really happy with the ones I did. Hopefully there will be more done this year.

Today I put more Christmas decorations away. I dusted and polished furniture and vacuumed through.
Then Cait and I got into the sewing scraps I have and some are going back to Seattle along with her sewing machine.
After we headed out to rent a couple of movies, which we are now going to watch.

Day 2 of a New Year

Today the decorations came down. At least the tree and the window. A few more things to put away. It didn't go up in a day, so it is not being undecorated in a day.
Got everything off the tree and Curtis took it apart and put it away in the bag for another year. Cait helped tote boxes up and down the stairs.
So slowly things are getting back to normal.
Tomorrow I will work on putting the Santas away and tackle the basement.

A Brand New Year - 2012

Today, we start a brand new year.
Hopefully it will be some better than the last two.

Looking forward to some travel--for sure to Sedonna in February
And then to Hawaii in March.
Will be headed to Seattle in May for Caitlin's graduation.

Hopefully will get to work a shift here and there, but NO FLOATING now.

Here it is New Year's Eve and another year almost over. I think I screwed up somewhere with my picture of the week--as according to my count it is only 51, but IRL it is the last week of the year! Have really neglected my blog this week, but needed a little break.
I promised Harlee we would have a girl sleepover, while Cait was here and before Harlee headed back to school. So last night was the sleepover. Curtis kept to the basement and the girls played Wii. She had a bath in the jetted tub. And had a great evening. Bedtime is always interesting. I put her to bed around 9pm and she was still awake until after 1opm. She thinks the adults should be going to bed when she does. Despite not going to sleep until rather late, she is an early bird like her nana and was up at 6:45. So, I brought her in my craft space and she inked and stamped, drew pictures, and did stickers. And Curtis cooked her pancakes for breakfast.
Cait and I did a little shopping and spending the rest of the day at home.
Spending New Year's Eve at home--and that is OK, I am really a home body.
Cait is going out with a couple of friends, after dinner.

Anniversary Celebrations

Today, Curtis and I celebrate being married for 27 years. Went out to a movie yesterday afternoon and then we went out for dinner tonight.
It's not always been smooth sailing, but we've managed all these years together and look forward to many more. He has put up with me, supports me, loves me through thick and thin. He treats me like a queen. I love him dearly. And he is my best friend!!!!

Boxing Day

Being Canadian, the after Christmas is Boxing Day for us. When we were kids, my mum always went shopping for Christmas cards, and wrap for the next year since it would be half price.
My Boxing Day didn't exactly turn out as I planned. I woke up with a pounding headache, but headed out shopping early for a couple of items I wanted. One thing I wanted was poppers for next year--they are part of our Christmas celebration and not exactly easy to find in GF.
I hadn't been home long, when the phone rang and it was work calling to see if I would be on call. They were expecting some babies and I said I would as a last resort. I guess they called almost everyone in the unit, but no one else would go in. I didn't want to see them running so short so I went in to help admit and came home around 3pm.
Curtis and I then went to see Sherlock Holmes at the movies to celebrate our anniversary tomorrow.

Christmas Eve

Today was a day of construction! Putting a train table together. Putting a car together. Putting a bed together.
The grandkids were here enjoying the day Wii. Watching a movie. Wrestling with Auntie Cait. Enjoyed fondue and shrimp and the others had Lefse.
Kirsten, Tim and Cait are all sick with head colds.
Everyone opened one gift under the tree. Nic was thrilled with his tool box from Auntie Cait. Harlee liked her Horse and rider for her dollhouse from Nana and papa.
Cait got a Wii game. Kirsten- a new camera. Papa a gift card and me a cord for my IPad to download photos from my camera.
Kirsten and her crew will be back in the morning for more celebrations.
Hard to believe Christmas is here tomorrow.

I have to post a picture of some of the cookies I baked. It is a big part of our holiday celebrations---lots of different cookies. Sometimes I surprise myself with all the different kinds I end up with. And I hope my girls will carry on this tradition down the road.

I worked yesterday and it was just a crazy day. Now I am off until into the New Year, unless we get busy and the unit calls. Nice to be able to celebrate with my family and not worry about working. Or if I would float somewhere else on my holiday to work!

And I don't think we will be having snow for Christmas--far too windy and warm! Nice for people that have to travel though!

Fun Time at Preschool

with Harlee. She is now on break for Christmas. Kirsten, Tim, Nic, Cait and I headed out to Harlee's preschool for family fun time. They sure like to include the family in their activities. They were doing some fun activities when we arrived--Nic wanted to be included.
Then there was art projects to do and she could come home at the end instead of riding the bus today.
Had some snow that made it very slippery out when we needed to drive across town for the fun time.

Building a House

Monday Motivation

Today, I hopefully finished up baking. I had some sugar cookie dough in the garage that I had made up last Thursday. It got rolled out, cut and baked. Then Cait joined me in icing and decorating them. Made a couple of other kinds.
I went to the grocery store to order our prime rib for Christmas dinner. And then I had to stop at the post office to pick up the box my sister sent. I didn't really want to be there, it was crazy. But they had a separate person going to get packages and I didn't have to wait for an open window.
Had a couple of inches of snow last evening that made the roads very slippery this morning.
After preschool, Harlee was here, so she and Cait could build a gingerbread house. Kirsten and the kids stayed for dinner and I made spaghetti, which was pretty easy.

Off to a Concert

Yesterday, Curtis and I headed out down the road and drove west to Missoula. That was after he went and did some work and we also took care of a flat tire on our vehicle.

There was s concert we had tickets to in Hamilton, MT--Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. They are a swing Curtis likes a lot and they were actually performing in Montana and we got tickets.

It was a great concert. They played some of their original swing music and some of their Christmas songs. It was a very upbeat time.

We also met up with Caitlin, since she had driven from Seattle and was spending the night with a friend in Missoula.

Then we did a little shopping today and headed home.

A Letter to Santa

This is the letter Harlee wrote to Santa on our train ride last weekend. She wrote it herself, I just had to tell her what letter to write. Pretty good for a 4 year old, I think.
Spent a good chunk of my day with Nicholas today. He was pretty good. We watched his favourite movie-The Polar Express. I bet you couldn't have guessed that one.
I made up 2 batches of cookies and got one baked after he left.

Don't you love how happy she looks. And how excited she is about Christmas. She really gets it this year and she makes everything magical.
I don't think Nic really cares or gets it. But he wants to open the presents. And he sure gave Santa the look on the train.
But it is exciting time with little ones around.

Had a busy day today. Was up early getting Turkey Noodle Soup made for our work party.
Went to the grocery store--doesn't take long to leave $100 there.
Had lunch with a good friend--it has been far too long since we have done this and I so enjoyed it.
Ran to Target to get some mitts and gloves --work was collecting them as a community project.
Went to the Work party and came home and crashed.

Sugar Cookie Time

Got 4 favourites done. And more to go.
Harlee came later in the day to help me finish decorating a couple of things.
The old tin cup was my mums and I remember doing so much baking when I was younger and using this cup.

Building a Railroad

Nic visited today and was into trouble as usual. He wanted to open the wrapped gifts under the tree. Then he saw the Snowtown on the piano. And oh, my gosh, there is a train up there and a depot with a railroad sign. It is a magnet to Nic. Also a fire truck with a dalmation dog. He fell off the piano bench once, playing with them. So to refocus his attention, we got him building a railroad on the floor. He was very happy to do this. Tomorrow we will be taking him and Harlee to ride on the Christmas train.

Today I am going to introduce you to the Santas in my life. I have been collecting Santas for quite a few years now. I started with a couple and it has just grown in leaps and bounds. I have a cabinet that is full and then there are some that just come out for Christmas.
these are the Santas that sit on my kitchen table during the holiday season.
There will be more in the days to come.

Today I ran to Walmart early, to buy a few things.
Kirsten came over between classes and had lunch here.
I got my sisters Christmas box to the post office and sent out.

Tomorrow is my last official shift working as a regular part time person in the NICU. The time has come to hang up my hat, and go to working Registry. I am sure people will want me to work a day here or there. But no more floating to areas I don't feel comfortable or safe working in. The hospital is so into safety, but is it safe for a NICU nurse to be taking care of an OB patient.??? I won't have to worry any more.
I want to do things I want to do, instead of things I don't want to do!!!!!!
Hopefully, we will survive financially without my regular added income.
We will have to learn to do with less and for me to be happy.

Roller Derby in Great Falls!!!

Last night was the first Roller Derby Bout in Great Falls- Twas the Fight Before Christmas.
Daughter, Kirsten is part of the Electric City Roller GrrrlZ. Her derby name is Steele N Troubl and her number is 911. The photos with her, she is on the far right hand side.

They had a great crowd for their first bout. Kirsten informs me they sold one ticket shy of 1300. All I know the parking lot was crowded. We stayed for the first half and then came home.

Major decorating going on at my house. It doesn't happen overnight. It usually takes a day or two. And when I picked Harlee up from the preschool bus, she helped me put decorations on the tree. It was like a treasure hunt for her seeing all nana's pretties for the tree. She had to unwrap all the breakables and see what was in the tissue.
Her dad came to get her and the first thing out of her mouth was --we need to get some beads for mama for our tree. I have pearl-like beads on my tree.
It is just so magical with her around.
She was also asking about the Christmas train ride we are going to take and how many more days. I told her today was Dec. one and we had to get to Dec. ten.

Christmas Decorating

Today I am stealing photos from Kirsten's facebook page. It is Harlee and Nicholas decorating their tree.
I got my floors mopped this morning. And then I started decorating this afternoon. But it doesn't happen overnight. Have my bay window done, so that means the tree can go up now. If I can talk Curtis into bringing it in.

We are having quite a snow storm out there with the wind whipping it about and I am sure making visibility terrible out there. I have been hibernating this afternoon.

Our Elf

Long before-The Elf on the Shelf, there was Elfie.
He was the elf Santa sent to visit our home at Christmas time.
He would wonder around the house at night and be in a new location, most mornings.
Well, Elfie has been missing from our family for quite a few Christmases.
He is about to make a reappearance at the house of Harlee and Nicholas.
I think it should be cute, especially with Harlee. She is really into Christmas this year, being 4. She tells me she is not afraid to talk to Santa this year.
We shall see what reactions there are to Elfie when he arrives at the Steele household.

It is very dull and gloomy out today, with snow expected tonight and tomorrow.
Curtis is on the road to Missoula and will be back tonight.

First Sunday of Advent.

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is from the Latin word adventus meaning "coming". So, this means, I need to get prepared for Christmas.
I feel a panic, once I know American Thanksgiving is done and Christmas is a mere 4 weeks away.
Finish shopping, get presents sent out to family out of state and out of country.
Christmas decorating, Christmas baking. And wrapping. I not sure how to simplify things. I'd welcome any suggestions. But I did get my fall decorations down and put away.
Today I have been canceled from work. I just finished watching 2 of my favourite things on TV--figure skating and they were skating to Manheim SteamRoller. Could I just sit there and watch it---that would be no!!!!! I was wrapping up some of the Christmas gifts I already have.
But in celebration of advent, my grandchildren have a little advent house. There is a present for each day of December for them to open. Back in the day, my girls had the calendars where they opened up a small chocolate every day.
Any way it is part of our family Christmas traditions.

Black Friday

Black Friday shopping seems to get earlier and earlier and crazier and crazier with each year. This year, Thanksgiving can't even get finished and the stores are opening up. Some didn't even close, which I think is a shame, since they aren't an essential service. I think Thanksgiving is a day which should be set aside for family and friends and not shopping. But who the heck am I??? old fashioned, traditional!!!!!

But at midnight, Curtis was up as usual and headed out to Target to check out a couple of bargains. He got down to the store, couldn't find a park, made a U turn and headed back home. I guess the line up for the store was unreal. And that a lot of folks stayed up.

We didn't even head out early this morning. We did go shopping for a couple of items and then headed back home. I am not into the crowds.

Kirsten and the kids stopped over for a few minutes this afternoon. Harlee asked - aren't you going to take my picture, nana?? So out came the camera and this is what I ended up with.

Happy Thanksgiving

American Style. Last month we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving. So today it was time for American Turkey day. We have so much to be thankful for --- Our family,our friends,our health. And I am thankful to be changing my status to registry at work.
I was up early baking our pie and getting our dressing made. Kirsten invited us over for breakfast. And then Curtis and I came home. I swept up all the pine cones in the driveway and fed the birds. I came in and got the turkey bird in the oven. Shortly after lunch, Kirsten and the crew arrived. Harlee and I made little turkeys out of Oreo cookies, candy corn, mini peanut butter cups and choc. covered cranberries.
And Curtis got our Christmas lights up as it is so mild out. Better than last year.

It was a yummy dinner and I am pooped this evening. Got my feet up and running the dishwasher for the second time today.

Tomorrow is the craziness of Black Friday. Not sure there is anything that I really want out there.

I am pooped after working all day. It was busy with only 3 nurses and no secretary, doing our work and answering all the phones calls.

A Field Trip with Harlee

Today I went on a field trip with Harlee's preschool class to Pizza Hut to make Pizzas. I remember the days when I went on field trips with my own girls--sure brings back the memories. I even rode the school bus with her. I think she was happy to have her nana with her. And she ate most of her pizza she made for herself. But she had to save one piece to take home to her mama. She always is thinking about someone else--I think that is remarkable for a 4 year old! Anyway I enjoyed spending the time with my little granddaughter. Far too soon she will be grown up on us-so I am enjoying all I can while she is little.

out here on the plains. This usually happens before the storm blows in. And we have snow predicted for tonight and tomorrow.
I picked up Harlee from the preschool bus and she was telling me how the wind was blowing her around on the playground at school.
Today, I have been working on the advent calendar goodies for Harlee and Nic. Harlee saw the little house out with the notes inside. She says to me, " Can I Help You, Nana!' I tell her - then it wouldn't be a surprise for you. She was happy to play Wii and then a little on the IPad before her papa came to get her.

Unproductive Day

Today, has been very unproductive. Just no motivation to do much.
I spent all morning at the hospital at a staff meeting.
I drove across town to 2J's to pick up some fresh produce.
Came home a puttered all afternoon.
Curtis was down the road in Helena.

Went to a fantastic concert last evening.
Manheim SteamRoller. Gets you in the mood for Christmas.
And there was a little snow that had fallen when we came out of the concert.

Pretty quiet Tuesday around here.
It is open season for Federal Health insurance, dental and vision.
So, I read through some of those and we signed up for some different options, since I will be losing my dental insurance when I change my status at the hospital, come January.
Watched Nic for a bit, while Kirsten went off for a job interview.
Looking forward to going to see Manheim Steamroller tonight. Should be an enjoyable concert. Get one in the mood for the Christmas season!!!

A Little visit to Festival of Trees

Why does it seem Christmas celebrations get earlier and earlier each year? There was so much going on this weekend in town getting in gear for Christmas. Festival of Trees, the Christmas collection at PGS and an open house at the Charlie Russell Museum.
Our NICU used to decorate a tree for the Festival of Trees, back in the day. They use to be gorgeous. We made all our decorations to put on the tree. We have some real crafty gals that I work with. One year another girl and I sewed and quilted a tree skirt. But those days are long gone.
Kirsten wanted to take the kids to the Family Day they put on. There are a few kid activities to do. My girls used to volunteer at this activity when they were Girl Scouts. And that was back in the day too.
Today, I was canceled from work. So, I put it to good use. I visited the grocery store for a basket full of much needed goodies. I changed the sheets on the bed and washed towels and sheets. Kirsten was here from school over her lunch time. Worked a little on my Dec. Daily.
Snowy on and off today. People need to change to their winter driving habits and slow down. There was an accident on the 9th Street bridge with a school bus. Harlee heads that way every morning, so I am happy it wasn't her bus.

My Little Knitting Project

I did go to the family day at Festival of Trees with Kirsten and Tim and the kids.
Also Kirsten and the kids came to enjoy a roast in the crock pot.
Pretty yummy.

Have had a frustrating morning. Curtis and I went out shopping. We managed to find him a nice winter coat for a pretty good price.
Then we headed to Sears to buy a new washer and dryer and a dishwasher too. I know a few things I don't want. When I decided what I wanted then all the extra charges come out---installation for the dishwasher, delivery, removal of the old dishwasher. When they said the hoses don't come with the washer and I would have to pay for them, that's when I lost my cookies and left without anything. They are trying to nickel and dime you like the airlines. I will shop around before I go back to leave my hard earned $$$$$ there. I am so over Sears!!!!!!My blood is boiling. Had some lunch and then just came back home--puts a bad taste in my mouth!

Our First Snowfall

Saturday was our first snowfall that the snow actually stuck to the ground. We officially had 1.1 inches. Here are a couple of pictures from down at the river. Usually we have our first snow in october, so this is late this year.
The light was weird to shoot in--it was hazy/foggy with the sun trying to shine through. But there was no wind blowing, which is totally abnormal for GF. And there was reflection in the water, which I have tried to capture.
Survived my Monday and will head to work tomorrow for my one shift this week. The countdown begins.

On to my Saturday. Curtis and I headed out to breakfast to the 5th Street Diner.
Since we were downtown, I stopped at the jewelers. I was having the beautiful Baltic Amber earring reset that Cait brought home from Europe for me. I couldn't get them shut when they were on my ears. And they are such a beautiful green, I wanted to be able to wear them.
And then we drove along the river and I took some photos that I will post later. Rather kind of pretty out with the touch of snow we had. And there was no wind blowing.
We came back home and Curtis and I have been rearranging some furniture in the basement. I cleaned up down there a bit and dusted.
Then I headed out to buy a few Christmas gift to put away.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween for another year. Kirsten and the kids were over for dinner and then headed out the door. Nic got to the end of the sidewalk and then decided he wanted to stay home with nana and papa. He ended up handing out candy instead and was quite happy doing that. Harlee went with her mama around our short block and had a great time. But it is a chilly night here for the little hobgoblins.

I started off at work this morning. And then after lunch it was time to send a nurse home and it was my turn. Curtis picked me up a little after 1:30 and said Kirsten and her crew were carving pumpkins and did we want to go over and take photos. I said sure. It is always fun to participate in their activities.
We were there for about an hour--I ate my lunch and took photos.
The deer picture is some deer we saw on our drive home from Helena yesterday.

Have had a couple of really busy days. And I am supposed to head back to work tomorrow.
Yesterday, I helped Kirsten take Halloween cupcakes to Harlee's preschool. Curtis and I ran a couple of errands. Kirsten brought over Nic, as she had a derby match in Helena. So, we had Harlee and Nic for the evening. We fed them supper, got them bathed and then took them home and put them to bed. It was 1:30 in the am before Curtis and I got back home. I am not used to such late nights.
Then, today, Curtis decided he needed to drive to Helena to finish up a case if he could get in touch with this fellow. Well, they managed to connect and away down the road we went. Had lunch at the Brew Pub and a stroll around Costco and back home again.

Glad we did this, because winter is on it's way. So, they say today-with snow in today's forecast. I am canceled from work, at least for now.
You don't see much of the reds here in Montana, except for bushes near the ground. I sure miss seeing the red maple trees.

Fall Splendor

After a quiet morning at home, researching for our future trip to Hawaii. Curtis and I headed out for lunch at Faster Bassett. It is a crepe and coffee house. Curtis hadn't been here yet, as it was new this summer. He wanted to try their burger, because it has bacon crumbled up in it. I had a crepe with spinach and chicken in it. It was an OK lunch, but not great.
Even though it was cloudy was decided to take a drive to see the fall colours. Before the wind that is blowing takes all the leaves down.
We headed east and drove out to the Sluice Boxes and found some great colours and ended up taking a bunch of photos.

Baking Halloween Cookies

Today was the day Kirsten and I took to bake Halloween cookies with Halree and Nic.
It's always a handful when you have Nic around. But he liked cutting out the cookies, except he wouldn't wait for me to get them on the cookie tray and was already cutting out another one by the time I could turn around. Had to gather the troops to help snap a few photos. Harlee always has fun and very independent with this activity.

It's the middle of the week.
Had a fairly productive day.
Laundry done, backyard mowed.
I went shopping and found a new winter coat. Have been looking for a couple of winters to find one and happy I did.
Stopped at JoAnn's to get a couple of things to start on some Christmas projects.
Enjoying a quiet evening at home. Trying to get back in the mode of knitting on 4 needles. It has been a long time since I have done this, but it all comes back pretty quickly. Will share what my project is in the near future.
