Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

That's how the song goes and how it was at out house Thursday morning!

It had snowed about 3.5 inches on Wed. And it was heavy sticky snow! Great for snowballs and snowmen! Not the typical snow we get here. It is usually dry and fluffy!

Harlee came for her sleepover on Wed. Afternoon and wanted to go out then., but it was almost dark and told her she would have to wIt until the morning! She was ok with that!

The morning of Thanksgiving came! She was up early! We watched some of the parade! I made her pancakes for breakie! And she wanted to head outside. It was already well into the 40's. The chinook winds were blowing and would be melting all that snow away!

She started rolling snow on the back deck!

I love the above photo! Adding the finishing touches,

She has the creative genes too! What seven year old adds eyelashes to her snow girl? She was quite thrilled to get her snow person built. Unfortunately it was almost
Melted away by the time her family got here. Good thing for photos to tell the story!

Kirsten and I went out for a little black Friday shopping yesterday! She found some boots for a great deal! I got a new Christmas tree for a good deal too! Yelled at a lady who was trying to cut the line we all had patently been waiting in! Can see how riots get started by doing stupid things like that! Also went to a department store for a few things! They didn't charge me for the most expensive item I bought! They were too busy removing security tags! Didn't find out until I got home and was checking my receipt! A great deal for Kirsten's birthday!

Also got a haircut yesterday, which was badly needed. It was almost into the 50's yesterday! And in the late afternoon when I went out, the cold front was moving in and had dropped to 27F. By the time I finally got home at dinner time it was 13F! That is how drastic these fronts move in here.

We are under another winter storm watch! Extreme cold and 3-6in of snow expected,

Happy Thankgiving!

It was a pretty low key Thanksgiving at our household. Harlee had spent the night with us!
She was up early and we watched the parade together.

A little pre-dinner wine thanks to Kirsten

He snacked from the time he arrived!

Our Cait was missing, but will join us at Christmas! Our second yummy Thanksgiving

Our after dinner entertainment!

No after dinner shopping for me. I am protesting. I have had to work so many holidays. I work a job that is open 24/7. I don't believe the retailers need to be open today! Kudos to those that remained closed!

A Little Thanksgiving Prep

Decided to do a little work, so I can kind of chill tomorrow!

I went with Kirsten to take the kids for their flu shots. Actually they had the nasal mist. Tim had taken her subie to work since it was snowy and the roads were slick!

I came home and shoveled the walk and started in the kitchen. I put the pumpkin pie in the oven. i got the cranberry sauce going. The stuffing is already to stuff in the bird. And i threw together some sugar cookie dough. I wanted to make some turkey cookies to put on the dinner plates tomorrow.

Here is my pie and the cookies cooling

Here are my cookies and hopefully these ones look like a turkey!!!

Had to make some snowmen with the snowy day we are having. I gave Cooper one wen he came over this afternnon. He took the chipits off and licked the icing and took a few nibbles out of the cookie. not sure what he is telling me??? He likes all the decorations better?

Harlee is having a sleep over with us tonight. She will be taking over Caitln's old room for the night.

Cancelled

From work today. That is a rarity! Usually i go in and somebody has to float. But, I stayed home all day. I wouldn't say i sat on my butt and did nothing. I did our laundry. I cleaned the bathrooms. And i finished sewing a table runner for someone for Christmas. It was a quick go together, since I just started it yesterday afternoon. Will have to wait for photos since it is now dark. I need to hand sew the binding on this evening. Forgot how much i like to quilt and sew!

Kirsten's house has been hit with the flu. She and nic were down to the count today. She cancelled from going into work at both jobs. Tim stayed home from work to mind the boys. Hopefully it stays away from us. Unfortunately i was with kirsten yesterday and the kids the day before. We need to be healthy for Thanksgiving. Under a big storm watch for tomorrow night and wed.

Just a Little Card

I made a little card when I came home from the movies yesterday afternoon.  I saw the Impression Obsession blog had a little challenge going.  I have a few of their dies and thought I would give it a whirl.  This is what I came up with.

I used dies: 100F Delicate snow flakes
                  168C Rabbit set
                  080N Deer Trio
                  086L Fir Tree Border
                  084V Evergreen Trees

I cut out the light blue background.  And used the tree border die.  I paper tore the bottom strip.  I used one snowflake from the delicate snowflake set and then used that center 3 times.  The deer I cut out in white and then used distress ink to colour them and the same with the rabbit.  A little stickles on the snow on the ground and one bling in the middle of the snowflake star.

Also entering the challenge on The Card Concept #23 (A Krafty Christmas)  I believe my card is clean and layered.

Off to the Movies!

After doing some cleaning around the house, Curtis and I were off to the movies with the grandkids. Big Hero 6 was on our agenda.

It was a great flick, the kids loved it and they were really well behaved. And the theatre was not crowded since it has been out for a couple of weeks.

The wind is howling!! And there is snow in the mountains, but not for us.
I see our bird bath is turned over. I don't like it when the wind is blowing like today. I told Nic he better hang on to me so I didn't blow away!

It's Friday!

And the and of another week!

Each December I have an advent calendar for the grandkids. It is fun for them for the month until Christmas! And it is fun for me collecting lots of goodies for them. Today, was the day I started to wrap their goodies! I don't like to leave it until the last minute. I like to make everything like cute when I wrap it all up. This year I am using kraft paper and red accents.

This was my post from last year! http://mtcanuk.blogspot.com/2013/12/december-1.html

I ran to the grocery store. I wanted to get another cheap turkey to have in the freezer for when Cait is home for the holidays. Pretty much ready for the big holiday next werk. Harlee will be having a sleepover one of those nights when they are off school.

We plan to take them to the movie tomorrow if they got their rooms cleaned up.

Wacky Wednesday!

It's the middle of the week! It's a day off!

I think I might have overdone it with my sore foot working a 12 hour shift! It is very bruised and pretty sore. There are 3 people out on FMLA at work and that leaves the unit short handed. So, I just took it easy today.

Kirsten had a spill down 3 steps yesterday with the baby. A little scary for everyone and she has bruises that tell the tale. It just isn't our week.

It was a quiet day to scrap and work away on our Hawaii album. Slowly, but surely it is almost done.

Ouch!!

But that is not what I said when I bumped the ironing board with my butt and the iron fell onto my foot! Lots of bruising on the top and also underneath! That put an end to my sewing yesterday!

We finally had a day above freezing!!! It felt balmy out!

Got the laundry caught up. Got the bed changed. Picked up Harlee after school and then had a visit to the eye doctor. All is well!!!!

Back to the grind of work tomorrow. They have been admitting babies like crazy and I was just there on Saturday.

i will leave you with a little layout from Hawaii.

Switching it Up

Just a little. Have been spending the day down in the basement where I sew. Making a couple of Christmas presents. Pretty fast to put together! Something I saw on Pinterest! That place sucks you in sometimes.

This will be a table runner when I finish. Will post the end result, hopefully in the near future. Haven't done much sewing lately. It was what I did before I started to scrap. I made cute outfits for my girls. I made wall hangings. I did some quilting. I really enjoy it too!

Yesterday was a day at work. Came home to three little munchkins. Their dad was out hunting for the day. And their mum had to go to work at 5 pm. Curtis had them and fed them mac and cheese I had made the day before. I managed to get the two boys bathed before their dad showed up. Not used to coming home from my 12 hour shift and not be able to just crash!

Not Only is it Cold,

But we are setting record lows. Minus 17 the past two night. We have been the coldest spot, not only in the nation! But on the North American continent. Colder than the Canadian provinces and territories and they are way further north than us. Alaska is downright balmy compared to us! Thank goodness the warmer air will be slowly coming!

I spent a busy day at home, as I work tomorrow. Cleaned bathrooms, and vacuumed through. I got dinner organized for tomorrow so Curtis can feed the grandkids dinner. I baked cookies. I baked scones. And I made yummy rice pudding.

Harlee was here after school asking about rice pudding! She says- I don't
like rice pudding!! I do not think she has ever had it, cause I know her mum doesn't make it. I ask her if she has ever tried it? She says no, but I don't like rice! Just like her auntie. And I tell her that. Auntie Cait doesn't like rice, but she loves rice pudding. Think I might have convinced her to try it!

Anyhoo, I had my camera out when I was filling the bird feeders this morning. We had freezing frost last night, which left everything covered in frost. Mother Nature can sure put the special effects out there sometimes.

Let's take a little Diversion

And go back to the warmer weather of Hawaii! If I think hot, maybe I can tolerate this ice box in Montana a little better! It was 17 below this morning.

This afternoon i drove across town and watched the car thermometer drop from 8F to 0, in a matter of!minutes!

Curtis took me into the hospital thus morning so I could do my NCP renewal. Got some groceries. I saved as much as I spent.

Crazy Start to my Day

I agreed I would cover this morning for a co-worker.  No, problem.  But the unit isn't very busy and that is a problem..  It means we could float all over the hospital.
I get up at 4:45 and call the unit and no surprise- they needed me.  So, I warm the car up good and head off to work for 6am.  It was cold at -10F.  I get up to the unit and staffing has just called and the person that was going to float doesn't have to.  That means I get to come home.  I wish they would get their act together just a little sooner.

As it was getting light I noticed it was really pretty out and decided to head down to the river to take some photos.  Not a cloud in the sky, but lots of freezing fog over the river.  I didn't even drive way down by the river because I didn't think it would be too safe.

It was an awesome morning to be out taking photos.  So, that is what you get this evening!
